Description

These works are both meditative and impulsive, but maintain a continual focus on human interaction with natural elements. By integrating materials used in construction and automotive applications with the naturally occurring, organic materials found at each site, the works encourage consideration of the source and the value of the materials we use in our daily lives. The juxtaposition of fabricated materials with elements of the natural world elude to sameness of their origin and their mutual fate as refuse. The sculptures' circular forms contrast with the hard-edged lines of the rectilinear foundations of the home not only juxtapose organic form with geometric, but also encourage a sense of place within the setting of a home. The emphasis on the center and “place” are aided by the spiraling texture or concentric design of the sculptures. Through the placement of these circular forms in the construction sites of future homes, the works emphasize the home as our most intimate connection with place and material resources, thus a prime location to rethink our daily relationship with these materials and the planet from which they come.
